While it does present some great topics, this one just wasn't for me. It was okay, overall, but I had some issues with it. The writing was okay, the story was okay, the characters were okay...everything was just okay. I felt like maybe the issue was that the author was just trying to do too much. I didn't feel like I really knew any of the characters, or connected with any of them. The first bit of the book I was trying to keep all of the characters straight because the book jumps around from one character to another. Also, all of the "adults" were incredibly immature. The most mature character was a 13-year-old girl. If you like domestic dramas that let you observe the chaos of a dysfunctional family then try this one out, if it sounds interesting. I will say that I probably wouldn't have been able to get through this if I didn't have the audiobook, because I would have wanted to put the book down and not pick it up anymore. I read this for a book club and the majority though it was just okay or didn't enjoy it at all. I feel like I will forget this story and these characters in a couple of months, if that. Nothing was super memorable for me. It's an entirely character-driven story that will be entirely forgettable for me, unfortunately.

I'm probably providing an unpopular opinion for this book. There are so many people that thoroughly enjoyed this one, which is great...it just wasn't the case for me. I did enjoy some of the twists that were presented in the book but I had some big issues with it. Overall, I thought the story was just okay, but I wouldn't recommend it. I think that there are much better thrillers out there and I don't really think I'd read any other work by this author. I just don't think it's a good fit for me. I feel like the characters were quite flat and the story was a bit unbelievable. I want a thriller to wow me and have a shocking ending..and this book didn't quite fit the bill for me.

This book was only 330 pages and I felt like I had to force myself to finish it. When I set it down, I didn't want to pick it back up. It was quite unbelievable, and I felt that it wasn't very festive as far as feeling like a Christmas book. Yeah, it's set in December, specifically the week of Christmas. Yeah, it has a small town setting and it snows. Yeah, there's some holiday baking. But, it just didn't feel like a Christmas book, which is what I was hoping for.

I really enjoyed this book. I also highly recommend the audiobook. The narrator does a fantastic job and sounds so much like Sally. It truly feels like a sequel and brought the story back to life. The plot, the setting, the characters, everything was just perfect and this was a great story to read around Halloween, especially. If you love The Nightmare Before Christmas, I definitely recommend giving this one a try.

It’s a fun, quick, and quirky story about an introverted girl that loves books and trivia. There’s a bit of everything in here, self-discovery, family drama, humor, romance, etc. It’s a great book to read if you enjoy books about books.
